Malerisch liegt diese Stadt auf einer Sandbank des Fjords.<br /> Durch die hohen steilen Flanken der Berge ist in den Westfjorden nur wenig Fläche bewirtschaftbar, weshalb die Fischindustrie ein großer Arbeitgeber ist.
